Anna in the Woods

 After our shoot in Beelitz Heilstatten we took a bus to the village I lived in, called Kanin. It is surrounded by beautiful secluded forest scenery. Being back in the UK now has left me with such a desire to go back to Germany and keep exploring Europe and the world in general. SO much to see and so many wonderful people to meet.

Behind The Scenes: Red Your Blues and Aiya

 I met photographer Sasha (Red Your Blues) and American model Aiya Campbell at the Karlshorst S-Bahn station in June. Together we all took a bus to the outskirts of Berlin where these 'garden houses' are located. They are meant for use as holiday or weekend homes, all with gorgeous gardens full of all kinds of pretty flowers. Sash managed to get permission to shoot in two of the gardens here, and the outcome was amazing!

Aiya brought with her lots of garments - swimming costumes, jewellery, shoes.. So together we picked out the perfect items for the shoot. My job for the shoot was to assist Sasha: keeping time of polaroids developing, spraying Aiya with water, and of course taking behind the scenes shots!

Anna, in Beelitz

Ever since setting foot in Beelitz-Heilstatten, I knew I had to do a photo shoot there with a model. Unfortunately, as we tried to get into the buildings I'd been in previously, we found they'd all been fenced off for construction work. Luckily, the buildings around the train station still have very easy access and we were able to complete our shoot. Massive thank you to Anna who travelled from Berlin for the shoot, and was an excellent model!

Behind The Scenes: Red Your Blues + Peppina Schwanengesang

In April, I went on a shoot in Wansee, Germany, with Red Your Blues. I am always so intrigued to watch how other photographers work, and observe their relationship with the model. It is very inspiring seeing the different ways of directing the model, photographic techniques, and how the photo shoot flows. Red Your Blues has a very distinct way of working - checking the ISO and light measures with a DSLR, and transposing that onto the analog camera, here being a Pentax. During the shoot I learnt more about analog techniques, which I've been very excited about as I love shooting with film. Seeing how naturally the model, Peppina, worked was also very inspiring. Constantly throwing in her own ideas of climbing up into trees, grabbing leaves to weave into her hair, and bringing along her own vintage wardrobe for outfit changes. At the end of the shoot, Red Your Blues asked to shoot me as well, and both Peppina and I together. We started with the woodland backdrop, and moved into a very ritual-like circle of branches on the forest floor. You can see the results on his blog.
